Old World Holiday Tours – 2020

We are pleased to be able to offer a twist on our traditional holiday tour event to ensure the safety and health of our guests and staff while celebrating the joys of the season.

We have modified the size and length of the tours and attached COVID-19 safety measures. Gather your friends and families and join us for an evening of outdoor entertainment and merriment at our “Old World Holiday Tours” event.

Tickets & Tour Schedule

  • Dates:  Dec 4-6 / Dec 11-13 / Dec 18-20
  • Times: 8 Tours per Day:  4:00 pm, 4:30 pm, 5:00 pm, 5:30 pm, 6:00 pm, 6:30 pm, 7:00 pm, 7:30 pm
  • Length: Tours last approximately 1 hour

What You Need To Know

  • This year’s tours will be held entirely on the Old World portion of the Museum.
  • Dress warm and wear comfortable shoes – All tours will be 100% outdoors, last approximately 1 hour, and require about 3/4 mile of walking.
  • Tours will depart every 30 minutes beginning at 4:30 pm with the last tour at 7:30 pm (reservations required)
  • Tours will consist of 4 holiday-themed skits performed by our interpretive staff plus a few surprises.
  • Please note that the earlier tours begin before sunset. Please choose your tickets based on preference for a daylight, dusk, or nighttime tour.
  • Mobility carts are available for those who are unable to walk the tour (advance notice is required / please call the Welcome Center as soon as you purchase your tickets to reserve a cart / 540-332-7850).
  • Child strollers and wheelchairs are allowed.
  • Tours are typically rain or shine, so please dress accordingly. In the event of exceedingly bad weather, a tour may be cancelled. Cancellation decisions will be made by 2:00pm the day of the event). The Museum will make every attempt to reschedule cancelled tours for an alternate date, or refunds will be provided.
  • Tours will be limited to 15 people to facilitate social distancing.
  • Carriage rides are not a part of the program this year.
  • A small reception, adhering to appropriate safety protocols, with light treats and warm cider will be available to guests in the outdoor Pavilion.
  • For the safety of everyone, visitors 5 and older are required to wear masks and maintain appropriate social distancing during the tour. Please do not purchase tickets if members of your group are unable to wear masks.

Tour Highlights

England:
The year is 1666, and what a year it has been for the Woodhouse family! Watch as the family tries to get back to their normal Christmas traditions after the hit of the Great Plague of London.

Germany:
In a Hamilton-style battle in verse, Weihnachtsgegner or Christmas Adversaries, sees two divergent spirits of Christmas at odds with each other, and progress. 

Ireland:
Mums the Word demonstrates the power of music as a stressed playwright tries to make a holiday deadline. 

Amphitheatre:
A cheeky and fast-paced romp, The Reduced History of Christmas showcases two street performers weaving their way through the shortest history of Christmas in one madcap ride.
