This Week’s Activities: March 19-25

The Museum has returned to regular hours:  9:00 am – 5:00 pm, 7 days/week

Below are some of the scheduled activities for this week at the Frontier Culture Museum.  Activities and locations are subject to change depending on weather and other unforeseen events, so please call the Museum’s Welcome Center in advance (540-332-7850), or check our Facebook page each morning to confirm specific activities or programs.  Activities occur throughout the day (9-5) unless otherwise noted.

  • Immigration: Learn about the people who immigrated to the English North American colonies (West African Farm, English Farm, Irish Farm, German Farm)

Thursday 3/22

  • 11:00 am – 12:00 pm  Youth Art Month Activity: Painting Focus – Art of Westward Expansion (Lecture Hall)
  • Youth Art Month Activity: Architecture Focus – Timber Frame Set (German and English Farms)
  • Youth Art Month Activity: Architecture Focus – Wigwam Set  (Ganatastwi/Native American Site)
  • Youth Art Month Activity: Architecture Focus – Log Cabin Set  (1740s American Settlement)

Friday 3/23

  • Immigration: Learn about the people who immigrated to the English North American colonies (West African Farm, English Farm, Irish Farm, German Farm)
  • Westward Expansion: Learn about westward expansion and life on the American frontier (1740s, 1820s, 1850s American Farm exhibits)

Saturday 3/24

  • 10:00 am & 11:00 am Toddler Program:   Life Cycle of a Chick  (Education Room – Dairy Barn)
    Baby chicks are cute and make such sweet cheep cheeps. Toddlers will learn about the life cycle of a chick from egg to full grown chicken. After making a life cycle chain, we will travel to the 1740’s settlement farm to visit with our chicken friends.
  • 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Youth Art Month Lecture: Personal Adornment and Embellishment (Welcome Center Theater)
  • 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm  Movie at the Museum: Matilda  (Lecture Hall)  Admission is Free
  • Youth Art Month: Fibers Arts – Raffia (West African Farm)
  • Youth Art Month: Fibers Arts – Needlework and Embroidery (1850s American Farm)
  • Flax and Wool processing (Irish Farm)
