Hands-on activities await kids who attend the Children’s Holiday Workshop

Sign up for the December 5, 2015 Children’s Holiday Workshop.

Kids – Join us for a fun and educational children’s workshop in which the participants learn about Christmas traditions from England, Germany, and early America. Participants help decorate traditional German cookies, take part in a wassail party, make small currant cakes, create Christmas garlands, bake sugar cookies, and listen and dance to traditional music.

The Dairy Barn is the central location for the workshop; however a large part of the workshop takes place on four historic farm exhibits.

The workshop is limited to two groups of 30 children:
Ages 5-8 : Drop off & pick up location:  Education Room, 1st floor of Dairy Barn
Ages 9-12 : Drop off & pick up location:  Lecture Hall, 2nd floor of Dairy Barn
(Hey Kids… sorry but you’ll have to tell your parents they can’t stay for the fun… there’s only enough room for the kids)

Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Cost: $15.00 per Child

Workshop Activities:

  • England – Make small currant cakes and participate in a wassail party.
  • Germany – Decorate German Christmas cookies as tree ornaments, then listen to a story about the traditional Christmas tree.
  • Dairy Barn – Enjoy refreshments of Christmas cookies, wassail punch, and learn a traditional English wassail carol.
  • 1820’s American Farm – Make sugar cookies called Jumbles, then listen and dance to traditional Christmas music.
  • 1850’s American Farm – Create decorative Christmas garlands and learn how Christmas changed during the nineteenth century.
