A Global Tempest

Revolutionary War Weekend

October 23-24

Join us for our largest ever reenactor event, as Living Historians from around the country represent the people of the Revolution across the museum’s different farms. Join us for this can’t miss event!

Expect to see all manner of civilian and military demonstrations throughout the day. Foodways, historic trades and skills, music, and military tactics will all be on offer!

English Farm: Our English Farm will become the Angel Tavern for the weekend, where the Royal Navy and His Majesty’s 7th Regiment of Foot will be competing for much needed recruits. Come by and see if marching or sailing is more your style!

Irish Farm: After losing important manpower at the Battle of Princeton in early 1777, the 17th Regiment of Foot is in desperate need of replacements. Lucky for them, this is familiar ground, as they were stationed in Ireland prior to the war. Speak with these veteran soldiers, or learn from the local Irish civilians whose lives are affected by these soldiers.

German Farm: Meet Regiment Von Roeder, a group of Hessian Jaegers who are masters of the irregular fighting that will become so important in North America. How did these German troops come to fight for King George in the first place? And what makes them such effective woodland fighters? And what is life like for the poor farmer whose house they’ve taken over?

American Indian Farm: We are so lucky to be joined by Malaciah Taylor of the Eastern Band Cherokee Nation and Kody Grant, an enrolled member of The Pueblo of Isleta and a descendant of The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. These Native Interpreters will highlight the incredibly mixed reactions of Native people’s to the American Revolution and how they adapted and responded to it. Meanwhile loyalists of His Majesty’s Indian Department will be doing everything in their power to convince these important allies to fight for the King.

1760s Farm: This weekend our 1760s farm will be converted into the encampment of Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Crockett’s Western Battalion. See how soldiers lived and fought on the Frontier, and the crucial logistical role played by the women of the army.
