JUNE 1 – 7 : HAYING IN IRELAND
What do you do if you don’t have a lawnmower? Well, you could let it grow tall and harvest it to make hay, which you could store in your barn to feed your livestock during the winter. “Haying” or “mowing with a scythe” was a big job in the 18th & 19th centuries, requiring many hands from the region. Workers came from all over and were usually rewarded with a large meal at the end of the mowing.
Come out to Irish Farm this week and try your hand at mowing with a scythe (sorry – meal not included)
New News! The Mount Tabor log Church exhibit will officially open this Sunday at 9:00am. After more than 2 years of work disassembling, transporting, repairing, and rebuilding, this mid-19th century structure is now ready to open for Museum visitation!
