Holiday Traditions & Workshops: Saturday 12/1

Come to the Frontier Culture Museum on Saturday, December 1st for holiday traditions and hands-on activities.  Bring the entire family for a historically festive day.

Visitors will see activities representing historic traditions, cooking and crafts.  Here’s a quick overview of some of the activities scheduled for the day:

  • Citrus Pomander Ornaments

    Education Room 

    Citrus Pomander Workshop: These are decorated with cloves and ribbon for a festive and fragrant ornament. Directions for drying the fruit will be provided to visitors.

  • English Farm:

    Holiday Traditions, Mending, & Airing Bedding

    Traditional English Ornament Workshop: These will made of ivy and decorated with ribbon to resemble small versions of a traditional kissing bough

    Wool Processing
    Traditional Scherenschnitte Workshop: Learn about decorative paper cutting and create symmetrical designs based on traditional motifs.

  • Schoolhouse

    Fraktur Workshop: Learn about the method of decorating documents with folk art style imagery. You can also practice your penmanship to personalize your piece.
